Senior Software Development Engineer in Test

Join Us as a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)! We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) or automation tester with a Java Software Development background to contribute to the FTSE-Russell Index platform at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).

Overview

The Index Platform team develops calculation, maintenance and distribution of Index products. You will work on innovative technologies with a team of engineers to implement solutions that support the strategic growth of the Index business. You will help develop test tools and frameworks from a blank slate in some cases, and assist with automated testing of new solutions including non-functional testing.

In this role, you will gain insights into financial markets, including asset classes such as equities, fixed income instruments like bonds and gilts, and corporate actions.

Key Responsibilities

• Software Design & Maintenance: Design, develop, and maintain complex Java or JavaScript based testing tools to assure the quality of large, scalable microservice architectures.
• Testing and Quality Assurance: Develop and maintain automated tests including non-functional testing, ensuring robustness, scalability and security. Proactively assist with issue triaging, root cause analysis, and timely fixes or workarounds.
• Strategic Teamwork: Collaborate with Product Managers, manual and automation testers, and Software Engineers globally to deliver high-quality products. Ensure test tool outputs provide clear reporting.
• L3 Production Support: Provide L3 production support, analyze incidents, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures to minimise business impact.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years in Software Development, systems design and automation testing. Demonstrated dedication to quality and hard work to deliver quality products.

Required Skills

• Experience using GenAI in Test Automation (e.g., GitHub Copilot or equivalent).
• Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to translate business use cases into technical test solutions.
• Accountability for overall product quality and services within the product.
• Experience working closely with the development team to ensure high-quality solutions.
• Independent, self-confident, can-do attitude.
• Experience with CI/CD tools & automation (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab).
• Experience with Functional and Non-functional testing (performance, scalability, security).
• Test scenario and test data preparation experience.
• Hands-on experience with Cloud Technologies (preferably AWS).
• Experience with data analytics and data-focused projects.
• Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and self-sufficiency in addressing issues.
• Solid experience with Java, Spring, Maven, Git; automated testing; relational DB (Oracle / SQL Server / Postgres); DevOps pipelines (GitLab/Jenkins); microservices and REST/GraphQL APIs; BDD frameworks (JBehave, Karate, Cucumber/Gherkin); AWS or similar cloud, Docker, Kubernetes.

Advantageous Skills

• Experience in financial services with knowledge of market data.
• Level 3 production support.
• ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing.
• Familiarity with Zephyr, JIRA, Datadog, JavaScript/Typescript, Selenium, JMeter/Gatling or other non-functional testing tools.
