Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Currency Design team at De La Rue. The design department provides an end-to-end process from concept design to prototype proof, with specialists in substrate, feature and concept design; origination; engraving and proofing. The design software and infrastructure are integral to the end-to-end design process and a key link to banknote, feature and substrate manufacturing sites.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the software team within a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary group responsible for maintaining and extending world-class design realisation and engraving tools used to create industry-leading banknote designs. You will be hands-on implementing new features and addressing technical debt, coach and mentor junior team members, act as a technical escalation point, and promote quality and best practices. You will work closely with Design Management to set a technical roadmap and liaise with end-users to push the products forward.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of quality, simple software using appropriate patterns
• Relentlessly focus on users’ needs, delivering software with the highest value and addressing risk in a timely manner
• Promote knowledge sharing across the team and department to enable collaboration on the same codebase
• Keep the team and stakeholders updated through agile ceremonies and lifecycle tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira)
• Identify risks (security, technical debt, antipatterns) and drive mitigation strategies
• Provide mentoring and support colleagues’ professional development
• Support delivery leads and architecture colleagues in defining technical tasks to deliver user stories

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

• Strong understanding and substantial experience using C++ and Perl, with ability to write and maintain complex software
• Experience working in an agile team, including starting new software projects with best practices, build/release processes, and automated testing
• Technical skills in solution design and application architecture; ability to envision, design and deliver software that meets user needs
• Experience leading small software development teams
• Experience with team development responsibilities, mentoring, promoting best practices, and rapid prototyping or proofs of concept
