The Team

At Deliveroo we’re striving to build one of the world’s best engineering organisations. We’re dedicated to building a collaborative and supportive culture. We set goals and objectives. We empower our engineers to find solutions to problems at great scale. We trust them to use their time wisely. Our teams solve unique and difficult problems at scale in an energetic and fast-paced environment. We’re growing quickly and need experienced engineers to help us scale.

We’re looking for software engineers who can have a transformative influence on the way we build, operate and run our database infrastructure.

What will you do?

Design and build the systems automation required to allow Deliveroo to manage and operate our large-scale cloud database estate. Work closely with DBAs to gain expertise in database engineering practices and technologies. Develop best practices, tools, and libraries to make the AWS database ecosystem easier to use and more reliable for product teams.

Technical Execution

You will improve code structure and architecture and review code within your team. Lead team project planning, foresee dependencies and risks, and partner with other disciplines (e.g. PM, product engineers). Aim to simplify the maintenance and operation of production systems, promote visibility, operational readiness, and health of your team’s systems. Build relationships with other engineering teams and identify collaboration opportunities. Break down large pieces of work, guide design and technical decisions, and influence the roadmap within your team. Take an active role in hiring and conducting engineering interviews, and support the personal growth of colleagues.

We don’t expect you to meet all of the items below, but experience in some areas is desirable: Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested software; Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis); Strong background in software engineering, preferably Go and/or Python; Practical experience in cloud engineering, preferably AWS.

Why Deliveroo

Our mission is to transform the way you shop and eat, bringing the neighbourhood to your door by connecting consumers, restaurants, shops and riders. We are a technology-driven company at the forefront of a rapidly expanding industry. We move fast, value autonomy and ownership, and we welcome new ideas. We prioritise our people and offer benefits in areas including healthcare, wellbeing, parental leave, pensions, and generous annual leave allowances. Benefits are country-specific; please ask your recruiter for details.

Diversity

Deliveroo believes a great workplace represents the world we live in. We have no judgement about who you are—your gender, race, sexuality, religion or any other characteristic. All you need is a passion for (most) food and a desire to be part of one of the fastest-growing businesses. We are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of our hiring process and will make adjustments to apply or interview if needed.
