Senior Software Engineer — Location: Bristol

Our client is seeking passionate and skilled software engineers with exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. Ideal candidates will be analytical, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

Salary & Working Conditions

Salary: Up to £64,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 5 days per week on-site, due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo BPSS checks (HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard) managed by our client's Personnel Security Team.

The Opportunity

Their Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Cyber team is seeking Principal Software Engineers to help develop the future laser defence capability for the Royal Navy. They are looking for engineers with both a deep and broad range of experience in software engineering, from requirements through to certification. Successful candidates will have led technical implementation and delivery of complex solutions, as well as supported and mentored other engineers.

What They're Looking For

• Strong proficiency in C++ programming
• Proven record of delivering software products on complex systems
• Experience and knowledge of all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle, especially requirements and design
• Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Experience mentoring and supporting junior engineers
• Collaborative and open approach to problem-solving with excellent communication skills

Knowledge or interest in the following is desirable but not essential:

• Windows / Linux OS lockdown
• Software Security and Safety requirements
• HMI development / design
• Automated Testing
