Are you a Software Engineer looking for a new challenge?Help save lives every day - join Sopra Steria, the force behind STORM, the command and control system trusted by UK emergency services.We are hiring Software Developers to support the ongoing development of our STORM application, built using VB.Net with a WPF client. You will work across a range of technologies - from middleware and user interfaces to third-party integrations - and contribute to system load testing and interface validation.You will be part of a collaborative team of developers, testers, and product specialists, all focused on delivering high-quality solutions to our public safety and emergency services customers.This role is primarily remote-based, offering flexibility to work from home. You must be prepared for occasional travel to our office in the Hertfordshire area to participate in in-person team meetings, and collaborative sessions.What you will be doing: Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable software applications. Writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code. Participating in the full software development lifecycle - including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and deployment. Collaborating with senior developers and architects on system design and architecture. Conducting code reviews, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring adherence to coding standards. Troubleshooting and resolving complex issues in a timely manner. Mentoring and guiding junior developers in a collaborative, learning-focused environment. Staying up to date with the latest technologies, tools, and industry trends.

Experience across all aspects of the software development lifecycle. Strong skills in VB.Net, with familiarity in other programming languages. Experience working with WPF applications and the MVVM architecture pattern. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail. A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new technologies and development practices. It would be great if you had: Currently hold an active SC and Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV3). Knowledge of legacy development environments such as VB6, as well as .NET. Experience working in risk-averse environments, such as those within the financial services, insurance, and blue light sectors, where security, compliance, and operational resilience are critical. Familiarity with modern UI frameworks, design tools, and best practices for delivering intuitive user experiences.
