Responsibilities

Delivery. Work. Projects. In this role, you'll lead the design, development, and deployment of high-quality, cloud-native software solutions using platforms like AWS and Azure, and technologies such as Kubernetes, Java, Python, and CI/CD pipelines. You’ll also play a key role in application modernization, system integration, and ensuring service reliability, while championing best practices in engineering and accessibility. You’ll work in a collaborative, agile environment alongside engineers, architects, and product teams, with a strong focus on continuous improvement, mentoring, and innovation. You’ll help shape the future of digital services across the organization. The position requires Security Check clearance and work on impactful projects that touch and help millions of people.

From HR and finance to security and compliance, your work will support tools used by 100,000+ colleagues to deliver vital services to the public daily.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Full-Stack Development: Strong experience in designing, building, and deploying end-to-end software solutions using modern languages and frameworks such as Java, Python, Node.js, and React.
  • Cloud & DevOps Expertise: Proficiency in cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, along with tools such as Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code technologies like Terraform.
  • Technical Leadership: Ability to lead engineering teams, set technical direction, and mentor junior developers while promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Skilled in working with cross-functional teams including Product Owners, Architects, Designers, and Testers to deliver user-focused, policy-aligned solutions.
  • Problem Solving & Modernisation: Capable of analysing complex systems, modernising legacy applications, and ensuring service continuity through effective incident and problem management.

Details, Wages & Perks

Location: You’ll join us in one of our digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle-upon-Tyne, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: Hybrid model - some time at home (40%) and some time in a hub (60%).

Pay: Up to £78,517 per year.

Pension: Civil service-style pension with employer contributions up to £19,758 per year (28.97%).

Holidays: 26 days starting, increasing with service, plus up to 3 extra flex days and public holidays.
