Job Title: Senior Stress Engineer / FEA Analyst – Nuclear Decommissioning

Location: Warrington, UK

Contract Type: PAYE

Duration: Initial until the end of the current fiscal year, with potential for extension/renewal


About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Stress Engineer / FEA Analyst to join our team within the nuclear decommissioning sector. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing technical stress analysis and mechanical engineering support across nuclear projects. This role requires significant experience in finite element analysis and nuclear industry standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general finite element analysis (FEA) for mechanical components and systems.
  • Conduct non-linear static and dynamic analysis, thermal analysis, and fatigue assessments.
  • Utilize ANSYS Workbench, ANSYS Mechanical/APDL, LS-DYNA, or equivalent tools for analysis.
  • Develop high-quality technical reports and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Conduct structural assessments in accordance with relevant design codes and standards (e.g., BS, ASME).
  • Identify load paths and perform assessment calculations to support project requirements.
  • Check technical output from colleagues and provide guidance as required.
  • Support and supervise junior team members where necessary.
  • Use Microsoft Office tools for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Apply traditional hand calculations where appropriate and support technical assessments using Mathcad Prime.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in finite element analysis within the nuclear sector.
  • Strong experience with ANSYS Workbench or equivalent FEA tools.
  • Proficiency in LS-DYNA or equivalent explicit analysis software.
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Generation of high-quality technical reports and checking technical outputs.


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with ANSYS Spaceclaim/Discovery.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, HyperWorks/Hypermesh.
  • Knowledge of non-linear dynamics, thermal analysis, and structural fatigue assessments.
  • Understanding of geometric product specifications (BS 8888).
  • Previous experience in supervising junior engineers.
