Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Qualified Senior Structural Engineer with expertise in Data Centre design to join our team. You will be part of the Global Design & Engineering team, reporting to the Head of Architecture. As a Senior Structural Engineer within the Global Design and Engineering Team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the structural design and cost-efficiency of our Data Center projects. You will act as the holder and reviewer of the COLT DCS Specification for Structural Employer’s requirements, guiding consultants and reviewing global designs. Your expertise will also be instrumental in assessing the feasibility of new site opportunities and in driving R&D initiatives to continuously improve our structural design standards.

Working closely with clients, stakeholders, and the regional project teams, you will ensure that our Data Centres are designed and built to exceed expectations and maintain cost-efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary holder and reviewer of the COLT DCS Specification for Structural Employer’s Requirements.
  • Lead R&D efforts to challenge conventional approaches and enhance standardisation, scalability, flexibility, cost certainty, efficiency, resilience and redundancy, sustainability and ease of deployment and operation in structural design.
  • Provide technical guidance to the regional COLT DCS teams and external consultants during design development, to ensure seamless execution and adherence to COLT DCS Design Standards.
  • Participate in regional design development meetings and presentations to review and validate structural designs submissions.
  • Participate in feasibility assessments for new site opportunities, ensuring structural viability.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to understand new project requirements and restrictions, to translate them into innovative design solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with Architectural, Civil and MEP teams to ensure integrated and well-coordinated design solutions.
  • Support the Head of Architecture in strategic design decisions.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections across EMEA, India, and Japan to support project delivery, quality assurance and construction compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with international codes and standards across the regions.

Requirements / Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status (e.g., CEng, PE) preferred.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience in structural design and engineering.
  • Experience working in a global context with cross-cultural teams.
  • Proficiency in structural software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, Tekla, AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Proven experience in structural engineering within large-scale industrial or data centre projects.
  • Understanding of international building codes and structural standards.
  • Expertise in steel and concrete design, foundation systems, and seismic considerations.
  • Familiarity with RIBA design stages and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Ability to critically review and challenge design proposals for efficiency and constructability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required.
