Overview

Join a global leader in offshore engineering

At Cathie, we’re an international offshore geoscience and geotechnical engineering consultancy working across marine geophysics, geotechnics, ground modelling, foundation engineering, cables, pipelines, trenching, and numerical analysis. Our projects span the North Sea, Baltic, Mediterranean, United States, and Asia, with a strong focus on offshore renewables and occasional work in oil and gas.

We work with clients who design, install, and operate offshore, nearshore, and onshore facilities—and we’re looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to bring advanced expertise to our structural and geotechnical design work on anchors and foundations.

This role offers the flexibility to work remotely or on a hybrid basis from Cathie’s offices in the UK, France, Belgium, or Italy, with a preference for candidates based in or near Newcastle or Brussels.

The role

You’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality engineering solutions for offshore energy projects. This is a senior-level role where you’ll:

  • Lead and deliver structural engineering consultancy services for anchor and foundation design
  • Carry out geotechnical assessments and structural analyses using advanced software
  • Provide technical advice on design, installation, and operations of anchoring systems
  • Contribute to research and development initiatives, helping to shape innovation in areas such as floating wind, mooring systems, and pile group analysis
  • Represent Cathie at client meetings, workshops, conferences, and in technical publications
  • Collaborate closely with experienced structural and geotechnical engineers, working either independently or as part of a team, and have the opportunity to mentor others while expanding your own expertise

About you

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • MEng in Civil, Structural, or related engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years’ offshore energy experience, with proven capability in the structural/mooring design of foundations and anchors.
  • Advanced knowledge of offshore mooring systems, anchors, and foundations; structural analysis; and geotechnical assessment for offshore/subsea foundations.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as API RP 2I, DNV-RU-OU-0300, and related DNV-RPs.
  • Competence with structural and geotechnical analysis software (e.g. ANSYS, PLAXIS), drag anchor assessment (e.g. DIGIN), pile analysis (e.g. LPILE, OPILE, RSPILE), and CAD tools.
  • Strong communication skills, initiative, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience in installation, operations, and maintenance for offshore structures would be a plus.
  • Competitive salary and discretionary annual bonus
  • Flexible hours and hybrid working arrangements
  • CPD support and senior mentorship from industry experts
  • Opportunities to present at international conferences
  • A diverse, multicultural team environment
  • Monthly social activities

Working arrangements

This is a role where your technical expertise will be valued, your ideas will be heard, and your work will contribute directly to some of the most innovative offshore projects worldwide.
