Our team supports Transmission and Distribution sectors across the UK and other energy and infrastructure areas. We are growing our Electrical Engineering team and recruiting a Principal Engineer in Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a senior position within one of our Electrical Engineering teams based in Epsom, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow or remotely.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships and interface with clients at sites or from our offices; be client focused and convert opportunities into successful workstreams.
  • Provide technical leadership on the FEED and Detail Design workstreams for Grid, SSEN-Transmission or other Transmission & Distribution clients.
  • Ensure quality assurance and delivery of FEED, Detailed Design and bids; manage resources and training for FEED and detailed design work for Grid.
  • Act as BP141 (former TP141) / equivalent assurance engineer where required; candidates pursuing BP141 HV Plant / Substation qualification will be considered.
  • Review HV plant aspects of projects (layouts, elevations, maintenance access drawings, earthing design, mechanical interlocking, HV busbar calculations, and technical specifications); act as Principal Designer Representative when required.
  • Coordinate with back-office engineers, sub-contractors and suppliers; manage tender packages and HV plant aspects of technical offers.
  • Attend and chair Design Review and Hazard Review meetings; review HV plant design packages; participate in site visits, FAT and SAT as needed; demonstrate strong communication and teamwork.
  • Be customer-focused, identify client needs, and apply business development skills.

What you can bring

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; experience in Substations Design in the UK Transmission sector.
  • Chartered Engineer through the IET, or working towards.
  • Experience in a leadership/management position in a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding and leadership of engineering projects through asset lifecycles.
  • Track record of leading teams in FEED or Detailed Design for EHV (132kV-400kV) substations.
  • Experience with client organisations such as transmission system owners/operators or distribution network operators, or design consultancies delivering to them.
  • BP141 / TP141 HV Substation qualification or equivalent, or ability to obtain; ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relationships; experience coaching junior engineers; willingness to travel to client sites when required.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage competing priorities, and ensure delivery; right to work in the UK.
