The Opportunity

At Leonardo, we have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Supportability Engineer to join our team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business. The team you will be joining is part of a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for the Through-Life Services (TLS), which will shape the service and product solution for Tempest, the next-generation combat aircraft.

TLS encompasses everything needed to keep systems operating effectively throughout their lifecycle. This project aims to develop a capable, cost-effective, and sustainable solution by influencing early design and providing the through-life support framework. This includes all aspects of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), solution management, continuous improvement, equipment upgrades, spares, repairs, training, supportability, failure prediction, equipment health monitoring, support solution architecture, and knowledge management.

Supportability Engineers are involved at all stages of a GCAP/FCAS programme, from Bid, to Development, to Production, then Customer Support, and eventually disposal. We draw engineers from various disciplines, including Electronic and Systems Engineering. We seek someone who enjoys working in the conceptual phase and transitioning to the design and development phases.

We will provide an environment to develop your technical skills and help deliver world-leading Through Life Support Services. Our team comprises diverse Engineers and Technical Specialists with extensive experience working collaboratively to deliver innovative solutions.

What you will do as a Senior Supportability Engineer:

• Engage with stakeholders to establish and mature supportability needs impacting the programme and solutions.
• Establish, capture, and maintain supportability requirements affecting suppliers, partners, and internal teams.
• Develop concepts and designs for through-life support solutions, incorporating input from product design and subject matter experts.
• Produce evidence demonstrating compliance with supportability requirements using analytical techniques and RM&T analysis.
• Collaborate with the support solution modelling team to evaluate product and service designs supportability, performing trade-off studies.
• Analyze in-service data to identify improvements and inform projections, presenting findings to stakeholders.
• Support customer engagement, producing roadmaps, plans, processes, and documentation.
• Network across Leonardo lines of business to share best practices.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities.
• Escalate risks and help define mitigation strategies.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.

Candidate profile:

• Understanding of Supportability Engineering principles and standards across the lifecycle.
• Experience analyzing data from various sources.
• Ability to work with stakeholders to elicit and trade-off needs.
• Experience managing requirements and cost modelling.
• Collaborative working style with diverse teams.
• Self-motivated problem solver with strong communication skills.

Additional information:

This role can be based at any UK site with hybrid working options. Travel within the UK and possibly abroad may be required, including overnight stays.
