Senior Sustainability / Building Physics Engineer (Hybrid – Bristol Area)
Location: Bristol (Hybrid working with minimum 2 days onsite)
Salary: Competitive, with annual performance bonus

About the Role
An established building services consultancy in the Bristol area is looking to add a Senior Sustainability / Building Physics Engineer to their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a variety of high-profile projects across education, healthcare, commercial, residential, and leisure sectors.
You will be a key contributor to sustainability and building physics input on projects — from energy modelling and life cycle assessments to BREEAM, Passivhaus, and Net Zero Carbon strategies. Alongside project work, you’ll mentor junior engineers and collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver innovative, low-carbon building designs.
Key Responsibilities
Lead sustainability and building physics consultancy services throughout project lifecycles
Perform thermal modelling, energy performance analysis, embodied carbon calculations, and life cycle assessments
Prepare clear technical reports, sustainability statements, and certification documentation (BREEAM, Passivhaus, etc.)
Attend design team, client, and site meetings, providing expert advice and guidance
Mentor and support junior team members, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment
Keep up to date with evolving UK regulations and best practice frameworks, including Part L, NPPF, and local planning policies
Manage workload efficiently to deliver high-quality work within deadlines
Candidate Profile
Degree qualified in Building Services, Environmental or Architectural Engineering, Energy, Sustainability, or a related field
Certified Low Carbon Energy Assessor (or working towards qualification)
Strong experience in building physics principles, thermal modelling, and sustainability assessments
Proficient with software such as IES, AutoCAD, and Revit
Familiar with UK sustainability standards and regulations including BREEAM, Passivhaus, Net Zero Carbon, Part L, and NPPF
Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical skills
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
Demonstrable leadership and mentoring capabilities
