Overview

Agratas, Coventry, United Kingdom. Hybrid working role based in the Coventry office. We design, develop and manufacture high-quality, high-performance, sustainable batteries for the mobility and energy sectors. We are a scale-up with a start-up mentality backed by Tata Sons, building a UK battery manufacturing facility and expanding R&D facilities in Abingdon and Coventry.

We are recruiting for a Senior Systems Test Engineer. This role ensures the verification and validation (V&V) of EV battery packs, Battery Energy Management Systems (BEMS), and Battery Management Systems (BMS). It requires deep knowledge of test methodologies, validation processes, and compliance requirements for automotive and electrification industries. You will define test strategies, interpret complex test data for failure analysis and risk mitigation, and may lead test activities within a defined project, coordinating resources, planning timelines, and delivering test milestones. You will directly impact our ability to deliver safe, reliable, and high-performance battery systems to customers.

This is a hybrid working role based in Coventry. It offers an opportunity to shape the future of sustainable energy solutions in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and own comprehensive Design Verification/Validation Plans and Reports (DVVPRs) to ensure alignment with product requirements, business objectives, and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the execution of all test campaigns, ensuring adherence to test plans, requirements, and protocols.
  • Validate and document all test results, ensuring traceability to system-level requirements and performance metrics.
  • Ensure all test activities align with ASPICE process maturity models and relevant industry standards (e.g., UN ECE R100, UN 38.3, ISO 12405, etc.).
  • Support regulatory compliance by generating test evidence for type approvals, homologation, and functional safety assessments where applicable.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the Test Engineering function, including workforce planning, capability roadmapping, and capital investment proposals.
  • Collaborate with Design, Quality, Manufacturing, and Software teams to ensure effective integration of test requirements and feedback loops.
  • Define and maintain test equipment requirements to support evolving product needs.
  • Manage procurement, commissioning, and upkeep of testing facilities with internal and external partners.
  • Implement and promote automated testing solutions to optimise repeatability and coverage.
  • Regularly communicate test results, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans for test failures and identify areas for design or process improvements.
  • Analyse test data to identify trends in failure modes and work with teams to mitigate risks early in development.

  • Degree in an engineering discipline (BEng, MEng, MSc) such as Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, or Mechatronics.
  • High Voltage (HV) Safety Training & Certification (e.g., HV Awareness, HV Working) or willingness to obtain.
  • Proven experience in test engineering, validation, or verification in automotive, EV battery systems, or powertrain domains.
  • Competency in V&V of EV battery packs, BEMS, BMS, or high-voltage powertrain systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and thermal testing methodologies for HV battery systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental, abuse, performance, and durability testing for EV battery systems.
  • Experience with developing and executing DVVPRs with traceability to product requirements.
  • Familiarity with ASPICE, ISO 12405, ISO 6469, and other battery testing guidelines.
  • Proficiency in failure analysis techniques, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
  • Experience with global vehicle programmes and compliance frameworks (e.g., UNECE, FMVSS, AIS standards).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
