Core Responsibilities

  • Act as one of the site's Senior Authorised Persons, carrying out Electrical isolations on Low Voltage and High Voltage equipment and producing, and checking electrical Permits and switching schedules.
  • Support the effective reliability, availability, operation and maintenance of the active operational infrastructure and associated electrical systems across the TBAG assets.
  • Provide expert specialist and technical engineering advice to the Engineering Manager and deputise both internally and externally.
  • Offer guidance on the implementation of TBAG Investment and asset management strategy in the short, medium, and long term.
  • Provide proactive leadership to facilitate delivery of specific programmes including TBAG capital programme, TBAG maintenance programme, TBAG training/development programme and the execution of the TBAG gate trial and testing programme.
  • Assist the development of all TBAG Engineering strategies and policies.
  • Undertake a Thames Barrier Incident Role.
  • Explore new areas of technology.

Remuneration and conditions

  • London Weighting - £4267
  • Thames Barrier High Voltage Engineer MFF - £15,000
  • Standby Payments for a 1-in-2 week standby for incident role – approximately 26 weeks per annum; 26 x £167.62 = £4358
  • CNI Allowance (When trained and competent in incident role) - £3000

Team and role details

  • The role is based in the London MEICA team reporting to the Engineering Manager. You will work with an experienced team to carry out operations and deliver large capital projects, planned/reactive maintenance on electrical systems, ensuring the reliability of equipment and machinery across Thames Tidal Defences assets.

Experience / skills required

  • Experience with Low Voltage electrical systems.
  • Experience with High Voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and diagrams.
  • Experience with electrical fault finding.
  • Good knowledge of electrical regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of managing maintenance contracts and projects.
  • Excellent knowledge of Electrical and Safety Standards and Regulations.
  • Chartered status with the IET.

  • Contact and incident role: Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; you may be required to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support your incident role.
  • Base location is at the Thames Barrier, London. Some flexible working may be available.
  • Job offer will be conditional to gaining Security Clearance.
