Job DescriptionLead a team of engineers and design cutting‑edge Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and renewable energy projects. You will work on large UK and European BESS projects, shaping the future of sustainable energy.
The T&D team focuses on HV design at transmission and distribution voltage levels (normally between 11kV‑400kV). Typical projects include feasibility, optioneering, FEED, detailed design and design assurance for existing or new BESS projects, often collocated with pumped‑storage hydro, PV and wind.
Lead electrical design for BESS and renewable projects (FEED, detailed design, assurance).
Design the BESS balance of plant (BOP) systems.
Develop grid‑connection solutions (11kV–400kV) for energy storage and renewables.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver innovative solutions.
Work on large projects and frameworks with renewable energy developers, primarily in the UK and Ireland and occasionally on global projects.
Undertake FEED, feasibility studies and design for planning of energy storage systems and associated grid connections, control and metering.
Support the team with bidding, project and quality management.

QualificationsHere’s what we’re looking for:
Previous experience with consultancy, contractor, equipment manufacturer or electrical utility in the energy sector (FEED designer, detailed design or owner’s engineer).
Good understanding of renewable generation and energy‑storage technology, especially battery chemistries.
Experience designing MV/HV grid connections, metering and control for battery storage installations.
Knowledge of grid‑connection requirements for renewable generation and energy storage (G99, G100, grid code).
Knowledge of electrical plant items and control systems (transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV Protection & Control).
Client‑focused team player with customer‑facing skills.
Capacity to work flexibly across multiple projects.
Ideally, you’ll have:
A degree in Electrical Engineering.
Understanding of project management (budget, time, quality).
Experience on multi‑discipline engineering projects.
Experience with design and site‑construction review.
Knowledge of grid‑connection considerations.
Professional registration desirable (e.g., Chartered Engineer or working toward it).
Experience with tools such as AutoCAD, EnergyPro, CYMCAP, Cableizer, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ETAP, DigSILENT.
Knowledge of emerging technologies (hybrid‑grid‑forming inverters, LDES and alternative battery tech).
