Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer role at AtkinsRéalis

We have a great opportunity for an experienced and well-rounded Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer based in either our Leeds, Sheffield or Newcastle offices. The candidate will require strong technical and management credentials and be able to lead projects and support our portfolio of prestigious geotechnical projects both in the UK and internationally. We need to increase our team to meet growing client demands in the infrastructure sector (defence, rail, highways & water) and the energy sector (renewables, low carbon engineering and nuclear power).

Your Purpose

  • You will be a chartered geotechnical engineer with a proven track record in technical leadership and project management.
  • The role includes mentoring junior geotechnical engineers; good communication skills are essential.
  • We are especially interested in candidates with experience of working in Design and Build environments.
  • You should have a degree in civil engineering or geology with a postgraduate qualification in geotechnical subjects and hold chartered status as either a civil engineer or geologist.
  • You should have the appropriate drive and ability to help develop and expand our infrastructure or energy geotechnics capability by building on the existing portfolio of our expanding, flexible team that can tackle work across a broad sector spectrum.

What You Can Bring

  • A good academic background with a degree (ideally MSc or equivalent).
  • Chartered status; proven experience in a fast-moving engineering consultancy environment.
  • Project management: experience and understanding of client relationships, work planning, and commercial management.
  • Proven geotechnical design experience and numerical/analytical capabilities for structures, foundations, slopes and anchors using appropriate tools and workflows. Experience with GeoStudio, Repute, Wallap, etc.
  • Digital geotechnical engineering capability including the application of AI and machine learning in geotechnical design.
  • Application of CDM Regulations in a design and ground investigation environment. Excellent interpersonal and technical skills to lead geotechnical design teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients to support effective work winning and delivery.
  • Good commercial track record in negotiating and running successful projects to support right-first-time delivery. Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work.
  • Willingness to travel on short assignments within the UK and overseas. A valid UK driving license.
