Responsibilities

• Our platform is PHP, MySQL, and AWS. We deliver features that enable drivers to use our applications, in-car and online, in innovative ways. We place high value on reliability, maintainability, security, and testability.
• Participate in Scrum ceremonies and work with colleagues, stakeholders and third parties to align on requirements and deliver a user experience you can be proud of.
• Demonstrable experience of backend development using PHP and MySQL, with full lifecycle development of RESTful APIs and web apps that can operate at scale on AWS.
• Apply TDD/BDD, ensuring code is tested and reviewed to the highest standards, and adapt to changing environments and emerging technologies to support the product roadmap.
• Contribute to the health of the systems we build, including performance tuning and diagnosing issues across local, pre-release and production environments on AWS. Operate a DevOps culture with development, deployment, operation and monitoring of the team’s deliverables.
• As a senior engineer, set technical standards for the team and provide mentoring and support to teammates.

Requirements

• Highly skilled in PHP with strong skills in adjacent areas such as TypeScript, React, JavaScript or Python.
• Desire to learn other languages, in particular Golang.
• Technically lead and provide direction to the team and contribute to the wider engineering organisation.
• Deep technical understanding of MySQL and relational databases, including database performance tuning.
• Knowledge of Modern Software Engineering practices, CI/CD, and DORA metrics.
• Experience troubleshooting and fixing performance issues in full-stack applications from browser to database.
• Experience in software architecture and presenting technical designs to the team and stakeholders.
• Demonstrable expertise in API development/design and interfacing with disparate systems.
• Excellent communicator with a self-starter attitude and ability to work autonomously.
• Understanding of software security, common exploits, secure development practices, including the OWASP Top 10.
• Proven understanding of testing methodologies and frameworks.
• Commercial experience with AWS and IaC (Terraform/CDK/CloudFormation).
• Commercial experience with Linux, Docker, Docker Compose, Git and DynamoDB.
