Server & Storage Engineer – Contract (Inside IR35)
Hybrid – Greater Manchester Area | £450–£500/day | 1–3 Months (Likely Extension)
We're working with a leading global IT services provider to support their end customer's infrastructure transformation programme across EMEA and APAC. As part of this strategic initiative, we're seeking a Server & Storage Engineer with strong enterprise experience to deliver critical infrastructure support and improvements.
This role suits someone confident working in large, complex hybrid environments (on-prem, Azure, SaaS) and who thrives in fast-paced project-focused delivery. You’ll play a key part in supporting global enterprise systems (c. 7,500 users) in a hybrid setting.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and maintain resilient infrastructure solutions.
  • Configure and manage physical and virtual servers (Dell PowerEdge, Cisco UCS, VMware).
  • Manage SAN storage environments (NetApp).
  • Perform patching, updates, and backup operations (Veeam).
  • Support infrastructure migrations, upgrades, and refresh projects.
  • Write automation scripts in PowerShell to streamline operations.
  • Collaborate across international IT teams and with internal stakeholders.
  • Provide knowledge sharing and mentoring to peers.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Expert in VMware technologies including clustering, replication, and distributed networking.
  • Strong background in NetApp SAN storage configuration and support.
  • Experience with backup and recovery systems – especially Veeam.
  • Solid knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, GPOs, and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, iSCSI).
  • Comfortable using tools such as SolarWinds for monitoring and alerting.
  • 5+ years supporting enterprise estates (5,000+ users).
