Shift Engineer

Under the guidance of the Chief Engineer and Engineering Supervisor, the Shift Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical and electrical systems within the hotel. This includes plant and machinery to ensure maximum guest comfort, efficient energy use, and operational safety. The role plays a critical part in maintaining the propertys high standards while keeping operational costs in check. Key Responsibilities: Perform routine maintenance, inspection, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other engineering systems. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and breakdowns to ensure minimal disruption to hotel operations. Carry out PPM in guest bedrooms. Conduct preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and prolong plantroom equipment lifespan. Maintain accurate logs of daily tasks, inspections, and repairs. Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely resolution of engineering-related issues. Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, fire safety standards, and hotel policies. Assist in emergency situations, including fire alarms, power failures, and floods. Support energy and sustainability initiatives by adhering to energy-saving practices. Participate in departmental training and development initiatives. Key Requirements: Previous experience in a similar engineering role within a hotel or building services environment is desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proactive and solution-focused approach. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent time management skills. Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays. A keen eye for detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, service, and efficiency. Relevant technical qualifications or certifications (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC) are preferred.
