Software Engineer III - Front End React - Nutmeg - Mid Level

Nutmeg is a J.P. Morgan company offering award-winning investments, products and digital wealth management services. We are seeking a mid-level Front End Engineer with strong React experience to join our team. You will work in squads focused on delivering high-quality software for the Nutmeg Webapp, collaborating with Product and Operations to provide an excellent digital investing experience.

Job Responsibilities

• Work with the Product team to understand user needs and follow an Agile SDLC to develop and deliver product features to the Nutmeg Webapp.
• Take ownership of tasks from estimation through release and post-production.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve defects (prioritized).
• Write tests for all code you deliver and adhere to best practices/standards to ensure high-quality code.
• Participate in code reviews to maintain high code quality and continuous learning.
• Share knowledge and participate in skill share sessions within the Web team and wider Engineering department.
• Contribute to technical initiatives to improve and evolve the codebase and toolset.
• Focus on solving the root problem, not just symptoms.
• Consider Accessibility (WCAG), Security, Observability & Performance in all deliverables.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities And Skills

• English working proficiency (team in London).
• Proven track record of building and maintaining customer-centric web applications/SPAs.
• Strong proficiency in React and its core principles.
• Solid grasp of Web fundamentals: HTML5 (semantics & structure), CSS (responsive design, specificity), JavaScript ES6.
• General Networking (HTTP, IP & DNS, Caching).
• Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, RTL, Cypress or Playwright).
• Understanding of build tools (Webpack, Vite, Parcel) and preprocessors (SASS, CSS Modules, JS compilation).
• Understanding of CI/CD platforms (Jenkins and GitHub Actions).
• Experience with monitoring and alerting to maintain a production application.
• Good understanding of REST APIs and working with APIs.
• Good communication and collaboration skills within a delivery team and with Product and Operations.
• Curious about new ways of working; open to different approaches and ideas.
• A passion for self-development and staying up-to-date with Web/React trends and technologies.
• Proactive and willing to help others share ideas.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities And Skills - Nice To Haves

• Experience with TypeScript, GraphQL or AWS.
• Knowledge of other JavaScript frameworks (Angular, Vue, Next.js, Gatsby).
• Experience with feature flagging/AB testing.
• Experience with design systems (UI development, white-labelling).
• Experience in the FinTech sector.
• Showcase GitHub/Stack Overflow/app portfolio.
