We are looking for Backend Software Engineers to work on the Engine Platform, make existing features work for banks worldwide, and build new features from scratch that Starling hasn’t released in the UK market. Requirements

We’re open-minded about hiring and care more about aptitude and attitude than specific experience or qualifications. While we mostly code in Java, you need not be an expert when you join us. We value clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing, and continuous deployment. If you care to find elegant solutions to difficult technical problems, we’d love to hear from you.

We have built our entire banking platform in-house, mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on tooling used by our engineers daily. The main part of our Backend Tech Stack includes:

• Java, which makes up the majority of our backend codebase
• AWS & GCP - cloud-native
• Microservice-based architecture
• Kubernetes (EKS)
• TeamCity for CI/CD (multiple production releases per day)
• Terraform and Grafana

Interview process

Interviewing is a two-way process. Our conversations are designed to help you get to know us as much as we are getting to know you. Expect a conversational style and come with questions. Typically, you can expect:

• Initial interview with an Engineer – 45 minutes
• Take-home technical test to discuss in the next interview
• Technical interview with engineers – about 1.5 hours
• Final interview with our CTO / deputy CTO – 45 minutes
