Software Engineer - Java - Engine by Starling. Engine is Starling's SaaS platform powering banks and financial institutions globally. We’re looking for Backend Software Engineers to work on the Engine Platform, building new features from scratch and strengthening existing capabilities for customers around the world.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to our award-winning platform and internal tooling
• Build new features and products from scratch in a configurable way
• Share knowledge with teammates and contribute to our learning culture
• Own your projects, working in small cross-bank teams to collaboratively deliver
• Aim for greatness, staying curious and inquisitive
• Be part of a scaling team as we change banking for good

Requirements

We’re open-minded about hiring; aptitude and attitude matter more than specific experience or qualifications. We code in Java and value clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment. If you care about elegant solutions to difficult technical problems, we’d love to hear from you. We have built our entire banking platform in-house, mostly in Java, and seek people who want to contribute to the tooling used by engineers daily.

Backend Tech Stack

• Java (majority of backend codebase)
• AWS & GCP – cloud-native
• Microservice-based architecture
• Kubernetes (EKS)
• TeamCity for CI/CD (multiple production releases per day)
• Terraform and Grafana

Interview Process

• Initial interview with an Engineer (~45 minutes)
• Take-home technical task
• Technical interview with engineers (~1.5 hours)
• Final interview with CTO/deputy CTO
