Full stack Engineer, Front-end Engineer

We are looking for a Developer from a Web background with front end development skills and at least 3 years of experience to join our Digital Delivery department and help us transform and drive forward our client's digital solutions. You will help develop and maintain one of the UK’s largest retail insurers' digital applications, helping to drive their business, expand their offerings, and play a pivotal role in assisting them with modernising their tech stacks. You should have a passion and desire to work in a Test-Driven Development (TDD) & DevOps culture.

About the Team

We have several Software Engineer roles in client implementation squads that focus on driving and delivering against customer roadmaps. Each delivery squad is multi-disciplined and consists of up to 10 members across delivery management, DevOps, Business Analysis, Quality Assurance and Software Engineering. You will be part of the Operations community with other Engineers in the Digital Delivery department, contributing to software engineering direction, best practices, and internal open source. You will have support from Software Engineering Seniors, Leads and Principals, and opportunities to gain industry-recognised certifications.

What you'll be doing

As a competent individual contributor in a hybrid working environment, you will play a pivotal role in the development of innovative web applications.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting and maintaining legacy products until they’re ready to transition to new tech offerings
  • Ensuring code quality by writing test-driven, well-structured, and maintainable code with a focus on performance, security, and best practices
  • Troubleshooting and debugging issues to provide technical support and guidance to the team
  • Embracing AI to help gain efficiencies
  • Leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3 to build efficient, cost-effective, and scalable solutions – during probation you will have learning time to obtain an AWS certification
  • Collaborating with product managers, business analysts, and other engineers to define client requirements and implement new features and enhancements
  • Staying up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve products and development processes

Experience we think you will need

  • 3 years of commercial experience as a Front-End Engineer in a JavaScript/HTML environment
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git)
  • Experience with cloud architecture (preferably AWS)
  • Proficiency in writing test driven JavaScript and related front-end technologies
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate and work well with others to meet product delivery deadlines
  • Passion for learning and staying updated with evolving technologies
  • Agile working practices

Desirable

  • DevOps: Infrastructure as code, CI/CD Pipelines, Docker
  • Experience in developing and consuming RESTful APIs
  • React
  • Serverless
  • Experience working with XML
  • Experience working with JSP and Java applications
