Position Summary

We are looking for a skilled SolidWorks Designer to join our manufacturing team. You will create, modify, and manage precise 3D models and 2D technical drawings for production, assembly, and installation. Working closely with the Quality Manager and production teams, you will ensure designs meet functional requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, update, and manage 3D models and detailed 2D drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Convert concepts, sketches, and engineering data into manufacturing-ready designs.
  • Apply tolerances, GD&T, and material specifications accurately in all drawings.
  • Produce and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs) and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers to improve design for manufacturability.
  • Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
  • Support and document design changes in coordination with the production and quality team.
  • Liaise with suppliers to communicate design intent and resolve fabrication issues.
  • Follow company, industry, and regulatory design standards (e.g., ISO, BS, ASME).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for design and production processes.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a SolidWorks Designer or similar CAD design role in manufacturing.
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (Parts, Assemblies, Drawings, Sheet Metal, Weldments).
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
  • Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings to international standards.
  • Knowledge of metals and other common manufacturing materials.
  • Attention to detail with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field ().

Desirable

  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM or other data management systems.
  • Some knowledge of pressure vessel codes, welding symbols, and fabrication standards.
  • Familiarity with FEA or other simulation tools within SolidWorks.

Company Benefits

  • Salary - £35000+ DEO per annum
  • Holidays - 23 days per year plus bank holidays. Increasing to 25 days per year plus bank holidays after 5 years of continuous employments.
