What You'll Do As a Solutions Engineer, Cloudflare Platform

Cloudflare is operating as a platform and has been blanding the demarcation of individual product suites to create value by combining solutions from different parts of the portfolio. As a critical member of our Specialist Team, you act as a spider in the web between Sales, Pre-Sales, Network Strategy, Engineering and Product management and support to make sure that these novel use cases are well understood both inside the sales organisation, well positioned with the customer as well as secured within the product, engineering and support teams and can operate stable in the customer environment.

  • Guide qualified prospects through the Solution Design; showing them the key capabilities of Cloudflare’s Platform capabilities.
  • Drive Proof of Concept stages of the sales cycle with hands-on engagement, debugging capabilities and consistent internal and external communication
  • Work with your Sales Partners to consistently achieve Pipeline and Revenue goals
  • Take clients’ requirements, design the optimized Cloudflare solutions for those requirements, and clearly communicate the benefits vs competing solutions, potential challenges and possible migration paths.
  • Support technical discussions with regards to the Cloudflare platform, to ensure sound design and overcome objections.
  • Support go-to-market efforts through writing blogs and other reference materials, public speaking, user groups and conference attendances.

Skill Requirements:

  • Strong Curiosity and Learning Agility
  • 5-8 years of prior Technical Sales, Computer Engineering, or related experience
  • You are comfortable to operate across the whole Cloudflare portfolio and the platform itself.
  • Solid technical understanding of Systems- and Network Architecture and Engineering build on foundational knowledge.
  • Fundamental understanding of customer network and application architectures.
  • A strong contextual understanding of the Internet and its inner workings (BGP, ASNs, DNS, GRE, Peering and Transit, PNIs)
  • Routing and switching fundamentals (GRE, IPSec, Subnetting, Prefix terminology, MSS & MTU, VLANs, VRRP, Spanning Tree, Anycast)
  • Detailed understanding of workflow from user to application including hybrid architectures with Azure, AWS, GCP.
  • SASE concepts and Zero Trust Networking architectures (Secure Web Gateway, CASB, DLP, DNS, DNS over HTTPS, IdP/authentication, SAML, OTP)
  • SaaS application integration and tenant controls
  • VPN and remote access challenges
  • Solid technical understanding of Computer Architecture, JavaScript, and other key elements of our platform
  • Computer Architecture; including a contextual understanding of its history and development.
  • JavaScript; both practical (what can I build in it; what features should I use?) and comparative (how is it different from Python or C++?) perspective.
  • Other programming languages - knowledge and experience of other common languages is preferred.
  • Database technologies.
  • AI; High level understanding of trending AI use cases and their architectures;
  • Knowledge and experience of Systems Design
  • Familiar with trends and attacks in cyber security (e.g. DDOS, SQL Injection, Cross Site Scripting, etc)
  • Experience with Application, Security, Performance and Reliability products such as WAF, Bot Management, DDOS, Firewall, DNS and CDN.
  • Hands-on mentality, capable of building labs and PoCs to test topologies, configurations and capabilities.
  • Familiar with trends in cyber security (e.g. RAT/trojans, malware, ransomware, phishing, adware, cryptomining, spam, botnets, info stealing, scareware)
  • Hands-on experience with HTTP Based APIs, including understanding of API based provisioning, awareness of REST, JSON, Terraform, awareness of headers and API tokens and how to leverage these capabilities in a scripting language (e.g. Python).
  • SIEM and log analytics platforms
  • Technical curiosity and passion: Cloudflare is at the cutting edge of internet technology, and our SSEs are viewed as subject-matter experts.
  • Ability to manage a project, work to deadlines, and prioritize between competing goals
  • have the ability to explain complex technical concepts in easy-to-understand terms.
  • Ability to work with command line tools
  • Ability to learn how to work with Cloudflare specific internal tooling
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%

Other desirable skills areas include:

  • You’ve built a web application, either professionally or as a hobbyist, and will be able to explain your design decisions.
  • Experience with debugging and troubleshooting the Cloudflare platform
  • Industry Certification, e.g. CISSP, CISA, CEH or OSCP
  • Experience in one or two industry verticals
  • Certification with any of the major Cloud Provider
