Staff Platform Engineer - Cloud Networking

We’re looking for a Staff Platform Engineer (Edge) who can have a transformative influence on the way we build, operate and run our platform. This work will involve guiding both the strategy and implementation of Platform Engineering across our group, touching areas such as managing our cloud infrastructure but largely focused on our Edge & Networking posture. Deliveroo is growing rapidly and our global infrastructure critically underpins this growth. Having a security, stable, highly available and performant cloud environment is a key focus for this role.

What you'll do?

As a Staff Platform Engineer (Edge) at Deliveroo, your individual work contributes to achieving group-level goals and metrics. Occasionally you will lead work outside of the direct remit of your team benefitting other teams. You will report to managers and groups leads and together deliver the results.

Expectations

Technical Execution

  • You will be considered an expert in at least one relevant technical area, sought out for reviews and advice by multiple teams and colleagues.
  • Your work will also include forecasting and managing project timelines and risks, and setting a sustainable and incremental team pace.
  • You will define the technical solutions for important business problems and understand the context in which large company decisions are made.

    • Collaboration & Leadership

  • Align non-adjacent teams and disciplines to resolve unstructured and ambiguous challenges. This extends to coaching other folks across all levels and supporting up-and-coming leaders in the team.
  • Lead the technical direction for platform teams, influence the strategic direction and build non-adjacent team relationships.
  • Lead engineering interviews to help guide the understanding of the Deliveroo bar for all lower levels which often requires contribution in other recruiting areas outside of interviewing.

    • Requirements

    We want to emphasise that we don't expect you to meet all of the below but would love you to have experience in some of these areas.

  • Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested solutions
  • Ability to take a lead on the direction for a technical area in the platform space (eg. Containers, Kafka, Networking)
  • Extensive experience with infrastructure tooling, ideally Terraform
  • A strong background in software engineering, preferably with Go
  • Proven leadership skills, including coaching, team-building and generally supporting peers and colleagues
  • Proven ability to define and run projects from inception to delivery
  • Proven ability to coordinate technical projects across multiple teams
  • Proven system design experience
  • Extensive experience with AWS networking (VPCs/Routing, Route53/DNS etc)
  • Extensive experience with proxies & load balancing (ALB/ELBs, HAProxy, Nginx)
  • Extensive experience with networking & edge services (such as Cloudflare & Fastly)
  • Some experience in network security (e.g., Web Application Firewalls, Rate Limiting, DDoS, etc).
  • Experience of working closely and building relationships with customer engineering groups
