This continued growth has led to the expansion of the company from London into key geographies across the globe: Cambridge, Manchester and Bristol in the UK, as well as Copenhagen and Toronto internationally.The position.We’re looking for a driven Structural Design Engineer to join our Cambridge team – someone with the curiosity and skill to shape projects from concept through to delivery across a wide range of sectors, including commercial, residential, life science, education, retail, hospitality, sports and leisure.You’ll take ownership of detailed design to meet with design and construction programmes, working closely with other disciplines to coordinate information and ensure seamless integration across the project team. At AKT II, you’ll be part of a team working on some of the world’s most complex and compelling buildings.The role and responsibilities.As a Design Engineer your responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Carrying out structural surveys of building/desk studies and providing initial advice on any issues that may arisePreparing conceptual and outline designs for structural schemes with support of the wider teamPreparing detailed design calculations to Eurocode and relevant design guidance notes using relevant 3D software packagesPreparing detailed design drawings and specifications for tender purposesResponding to client requests for informationSupporting the production of construction information for issue to contractorsVisiting sites during the construction phase to monitor progress and provide advice to contractorsDay-to-day support to colleagues from other disciplines within the officeAttending team meetings with both internal and external disciplinesYou will have the opportunity over time to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as your professional skills develop, and you will be supported towards chartership through IStructE / ICE.Required Skills.Experience of structural design in concrete, steel and timber structures, as well as experience in other structural materialsExperience of working with Eurocode and other local design guidanceKnowledge and interest in sustainable design and embodied carbon evaluationA strong analytical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, combined with practical understanding of buildings and constructionA desire to work constructively in a team, finding holistic building design solutionsA good understanding of multidisciplinary requirements into coordinated solutionsGood communication and interpersonal skillsComputer literate with knowledge of design and analysis programmesUnderstanding of the health & safety regulations and designer’s responsibilitiesQualifications And Experience.A good degree in EngineeringExperience, competency and flexibility to rise to challenging situations and take on responsibility appropriate to their capabilityIt is expected that the successful candidate will have at least 3 years experience in the area of Structural Engineering.What's in it for you?The chance to work for an innovative, design-led studio based in Cambridge with the opportunity to work on some of the very best projects across the UK and internationally, plus a friendly, dedicated team and a competitive salary.
