Job Title: Structural Engineer Client: BAE Systems Location: Barrow-in-Furness (Hybrid: 2–3 days on-site per week) Duration: 6 months (with potential extension) Rate: £52/hr PAYE or £70.19/hr Umbrella (£519 pd Umbrella) IR35 Status: Inside IR35 About the Role BAE Systems Submarines is seeking two experienced Principal Structural Engineers to join their multi-functional teams in support of multiple submarine programmes. You will collaborate with cross-discipline engineers and industry partners to develop technically sound, safety-compliant, and performance-driven structural solutions. This role offers the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge, tackle unique engineering challenges, and progress into senior engineering or management positions. Key Responsibilities Design submarine structures to meet defined load cases and safety margins Perform structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (Abaqus) Collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver integrated design solutions Produce and review technical documentation, including design/analysis reports Validate compliance with safety, functional, and performance standards Support build and manufacturing teams in resolving structural issues on-site Essential Skills & Experience Strong analytical and structural calculation skills Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (preferably Abaqus) Submarine or shipbuilding structural design/analysis experience Knowledge of welding techniques and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams Please either Click Apply or email
