OverviewStructural Integrity Engineer (FEA) - Submarines | Derby area | Full Time | 5 Days On-SiteWe have an opportunity for two Structural Integrity Engineers to join our new office opening in Cardiff. You will engage in structural integrity assessments including primary strength, fatigue, fatigue crack growth and fracture assessments, in accordance with ASME III and R6 defect tolerance assessment code. You will support a wide range of programmes from in-service support, new build, and future programmes, and build and maintain Finite Element Analyses (FEA) models to extract stresses for component justification.Why Rolls-Royce? We are growing our submarine and nuclear sector capabilities and offer an inclusive, digital-first culture with opportunities to learn and grow.What you will be doingYou will undertake a broad range of mechanical assessments, including linear and non-linear finite element analyses.Make use of traditional hand calculation methods, commercial finite element codes (mainly Abaqus) and bespoke analysis codes.Develop and substantiate component designs, inform through-life management and support submarine enterprise.Develop and implement methodologies to assess submarine nuclear plant components.Relay the method and outcome of assessments clearly to audiences at all levels within Rolls-Royce, industry partners and customer organisations.Who we are looking forEssentialQualified to degree level, or equivalent experience, in mechanical engineering, physics or mathematics.Able to prioritise tasks and work on multiple projects simultaneously.Demonstrate interest and expertise in structural integrity analysis.DesirableGood knowledge of fundamental failure mechanisms and assessment methods.Practical experience with finite element methods (preferably Abaqus) for structural component assessment, and experience supporting manufacturing engineers, designers and safety case authors.Working knowledge of linear and non-linear events.Experience generating and working with FEA models using tools such as Abaqus, ANSYS, HyperMesh.Experience in an industry where safety is a priority and components are justified to safety cases and/or design code requirements (ASME III, R6).Membership or Associate Membership of a relevant professional institution and working toward chartership.Benefits and opportunitiesExcellent development, competitive salary and exceptional benefits, including bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
