Supplier Development Engineer

Overview

Our client is a worldwide manufacturer of construction and mining products. They are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer on an initial 12 month contract basis which is likely to extend for the right person; to assess supplier quality and ensure that all the products are free from defects and are following manufacturing specifications and legal standards.

Responsibilities

  • A diverse SDE role from NPI to quality/capacity issues, where you will take care of suppliers, mainly for the Castings category
  • Lead ongoing automation projects and also audit projects and capacity planning
  • Assess potential suppliers via on-site Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management (QCLDM) audits
  • Drive implementation of Lean, BIQ, continuously reviewing supplier capacity, assuring production readiness through rigorous review of supplier PPAP submission
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to the supply base
  • CPI: collaborate with suppliers to assure proper process control standards are in place & continuously monitor key manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities
  • Responsible for monitoring suppliers adherence to PCN (Process Change Notification)
  • Quality Focus: Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technological developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design, quality, and manufacturing
  • Ensure Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) is completed and approved before new parts are delivered
  • Some travel required: 25 - 50%, mainly within Europe

Qualifications

  • Previous demonstrable experience working with suppliers. High technical knowledge in manufacturing & quality systems
  • Must have: Audit Capability, Familiar with quality tools and techniques ideally within the Automotive industry (IATF16949 or a minimum of ISO9001)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills dealing with both internal and external partners
  • Knowledge and understanding of: supplier audits, PPAP, APQP, Engineering specifications
  • Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify the methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers and partners
  • PC literate: used to using MS Office suite. Power BI knowledge would be an advantage
  • Castings knowledge would be an advantage

Contract details

  • Initial 12 month contract - likely to extend for the right person
  • 36.5 hours a week - 08:00-16:30 Mon to Thurs and 08:00-12:00 on a Fri
  • Up to GBP27.20 PAYE hourly rate plus holiday and pension contribution OR Umbrella hourly rates up to GBP36.90 - depending on experience
