Overview

Matchtech are supporting the recruitment for a System Safety Assurance Engineer to work with a key client in Toronto. This role requires the suitable candidate to relocate to Toronto for the position.

Safety Requirements and Assurance Documentation

  • Develop and manage Safety Requirements and Safety Assurance Plans.
  • Ensure safety requirements are clearly allocated, implemented, verified, and validated.
  • Review and provide assurance of contractor and supplier SSA documentation, including Safety Cases, Safety Plans, and Risk Assessments.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Work closely with engineering, operations, and integration teams to embed safety into design and delivery.
  • Liaise with client safety representatives, independent assessors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Support and attend Safety Review Panels (SRPs), Operational Readiness Panels (ORPs), and other relevant meetings.

Progressive Assurance and Lifecycle Safety

  • Implement a progressive assurance approach that aligns with key project milestones and gateways.
  • Ensure safety assurance is maintained through all lifecycle stages — design, construction, commissioning, operations, and decommissioning (if relevant).

Compliance and Standards

  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards
  • Interpret and apply client and regulatory safety policies and frameworks.

Training, Mentorship, and Culture

  • Provide training and mentoring to internal teams and contractors on safety assurance processes.
  • Champion a positive safety culture and raise awareness of system safety principles across the program.
  • Support continuous improvement in safety assurance practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality analysis, assessments, reports, and designs to support client projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Mentor and guide junior colleagues, ensuring project activities align with company procedures and standards.
  • Innovate new tools and techniques to meet client needs, drawing from global best practices.
  • Plan and execute project activities, ensuring timely delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Provide technical expertise and inputs for business development activities and proposals.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, ensuring client safety and satisfaction.
  • Represent our company in client meetings, workshops, and industry events.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive project success.
  • Assume leadership roles as needed to support business objectives.
  • Contribute to the growth of our North American business through delivering excellence to our clients.
