Systems Engineer, AWS — Amazon Web Services (AWS)

AWS builds and operates some of the largest internet infrastructure on the planet, providing customers with an infrastructure web services platform in the cloud. AWS services cover compute power, storage, database, and other cloud resources as business demands them. We are looking for exceptionally motivated people who are driven by learning and innovation and who want to operate and engineer systems at massive scale.

As a member of the AWS Utility Computing (UC) organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including security-focused solutions for cloud services. You’ll work in a world-class team in a dynamic environment with an entrepreneurial feel akin to a startup.

Responsibilities

  • Own and operate services in a high-growth environment and contribute to the design, build, and run lifecycle of AWS services.
  • Dive deep to understand root causes of issues, investigate metrics, and collaborate with senior engineers to resolve problems and improve systems.
  • Utilize Linux skills to troubleshoot, implement fixes, automate manual processes, and provide data and metrics to manage capacity and efficiency.
  • Apply networking knowledge to identify and troubleshoot connectivity issues and communicate clearly with teammates to deliver results.
  • Be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and change, and customer-obsessed to resolve pain points quickly and completely.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Linux system administration and strong troubleshooting skills at all levels (application to network to host).
  • Experience of systems automation using BASH, Python, Perl, or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience with network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to cloud computing concepts and design considerations.
  • Knowledge of configuration management systems, such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or related systems.
