About the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Product Development Engineer to join the Core Team at Gaydon. As a Wheel & Tyre Standards Engineer, you will play a key role in defining and owning the standards and processes for wheels, tyres, and puncture management systems (PMS) across all JLR vehicles.
You will be part of a highly regarded team known for technical expertise and influence, working closely with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, marketing, research, and regulatory departments. You will support the integration of new technologies and contribute to the development of future vehicle architectures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and author technical requirements and test procedures for wheels, tyres, valves, assembly, PMS, and tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).
- Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to identify potential design risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Create and develop engineering tools to support the wheel and tyre engineering teams.
- Analyse technical data and prepare detailed reports to inform decision-making.
- Continuously seek process improvements to enhance quality, reduce costs, and improve efficiency using virtual or simulation (CAE) techniques.
- Support the introduction and integration of new technologies within wheel and tyre systems.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned by line management related to the role.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
Essential:
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under broad guidance.
- Proven experience authoring clear, concise technical documents, requirements, and test procedures.
- Basic project management skills to manage personal workload and meet deadlines effectively.
- Strong customer focus with the ability to collaborate constructively across teams and respond to enquiries in line with JLR’s creators’ code.
Desirable:
- Experience or knowledge of wheels and/or tyres development, manufacturing, assembly, puncture management systems (PMS), or tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).
- Experience defining component requirements, minimum standards, test procedures, failure mode analysis, or quality management processes.
