Overview

Role: Project Mechanical Engineer (Thermal Energy) for a Senior Renewables/Thermal Energy project. Hybrid work arrangement (4 days on site) with reasonable distance to the site. Start date ASAP. Length: 12-month contract with possible extensions.

Key Accountabilities

  • As an exponent of multi-disciplined engineering you will schedule work and financial programmes to ensure that Projects are delivered, on time, to budget and support customer requirements.
  • Own and deliver the full project lifecycle for assigned projects, from conception, through definition, design, installation, commissioning and final handover.
  • Assist in defining specification requirements for engineering contracts, draft necessary documentation and participate in tender evaluation to ensure contracts are awarded in the best interests of the company.
  • Provide technical advice and support to own and other discipline technical staff on matters appropriate to their experience and discipline.
  • Participate in the preparation of the business capital budget and exercise cost control to meet budget requirements.
  • Self-sufficient in management and reporting requirements for finance, procurement and contracts.
  • Demonstrate financial justification and compose supporting documentation for senior management to validate decisions.
  • Engage in design, project management and commissioning of plant modifications, initiating recommendations for modifications to ensure timely and cost-effective completion.
  • Maintain awareness of site standards in line with HSE, Environment Agency, COMAH, ATEX/DSEAR, PSSR, PE(S)R and relevant discipline matters.

Essential Functional & Technical Skills

  • Qualified to a minimum of HNC in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Industry legislation knowledge and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Engineering and plant design standards knowledge (e.g., PE(S)R, PSSR, ASME B31.3, ATEX/DSEAR).
  • Experience in maintenance and engineering of mechanical plant and equipment relevant to installations.
  • Ability to operate in a structured project environment and be self-sufficient.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including representing the company with outside organisations.
  • Project management process training.
  • Previous experience on high-hazard or COMAH sites.
  • Analytical thinker with ability to innovate solutions within the legal framework of the Gas Storage business.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, thoroughness, and detail-oriented planning and organizing.
  • High personal and professional standards; team player who can challenge and accept challenge.
  • Ability to justify works with clear rationale to support decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working on pipeworks and pressure equipment safety regulations.
  • Experience from design, fabrication through to installation.
