Your impact: As a Traffic Signal Engineer or Senior Traffic Signal Engineer, you’ll deliver innovative and sustainable solutions across our Aviation, Rail and Technology group. You’ll be part of the design and delivery of traffic signal projects, ensuring technical excellence and safety in design.

Whether you're designing junctions, implementing intelligent transport systems (ITS), or leading technical delivery, your work will directly impact how communities move and connect. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions that improve road safety, reduce congestion, and support active travel initiatives.

Senior level: you’ll mentor junior engineers, lead project delivery, and liaise with clients to ensure technical excellence and stakeholder satisfaction. Your leadership will help shape the future of traffic signal design and contribute to a more connected, low-carbon transport network.

Jacobs partners with major clients including National Highways, Transport Scotland, the Welsh Government, and local authorities, and works on international projects such as the King Salman International Airport.

Responsibilities

  • Design and delivery of traffic signal projects, ensuring technical excellence and safety in design.
  • Design junctions and ITS solutions; lead technical delivery as appropriate for Senior role.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions that improve road safety, reduce congestion, and support active travel.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead project delivery (Senior).
  • Engage with clients to ensure technical excellence and stakeholder satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HND/C in Civil, Electrical, or Transport Engineering (or related field).
  • Experience using AutoCAD, LinSig, MOVA, and other traffic modelling tools.
  • Experience in designing and reviewing traffic signal schemes from feasibility to implementation (Senior position).
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers (Senior position).
  • Familiarity with health and safety legislation and CDM regulations.
  • Knowledge of relevant design standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
