Data Classification Lead (Varonis MDDR Engineer) – London, hybrid on-site as required. Rate £500 per day Ltd • Duration: 7 months.

We are seeking an experienced Data Classification Lead to take full technical ownership of delivering a major data governance and security initiative, focusing on end-to-end implementation of Varonis MDDR in conjunction with Microsoft Purview. The role supports strengthening the organisation's data protection, compliance, and governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and execution of the programme in line with a detailed Statement of Work (SOW).
  • Configure, integrate, and optimise Varonis MDDR with Microsoft Purview; ensure seamless integration with existing security tooling and workflows.
  • Identify and classify sensitive information; align sensitivity labels with the wider data classification strategy.
  • Configure and fine-tune policies, labels, and rules for optimal data protection; oversee data discovery, labeling, and access control processes.
  • Provide expert guidance, training, and awareness sessions to key stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation including architecture diagrams and SOPs; regularly report on classification effectiveness, risks, and incidents.
  • Engage senior decision-makers and influence cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory and organisational requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven hands-on experience with the Varonis platform, ideally including MDDR; strong expertise in Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 compliance tools (sensitivity labels, DLP).
  • Solid understanding of data governance frameworks and regulatory compliance; ability to lead complex projects from start to finish.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Intune or other endpoint management solutions; experience with MS Copilot deployments is highly advantageous.
  • Professional certifications in information protection, governance, or security are beneficial.
  • Strong communication, robust documentation skills, and effective stakeholder engagement.

Location: London (hybrid).
