The project: Verification and assurance engineer required to work in Plymouth on a large-scale infrastructure project. Mace is engaged as delivery partner to Babcock in supporting the delivery of a major upgrade of existing facilities within HMNB Devonport. These major upgrades will enable deep maintenance work packages for the latest class of nuclear-powered fleet submarines. Dock upgrades to support the Astute operational programme will enable optimisation of maintenance. Mace is playing a key role in delivering these upgrades.

The verification and assurance engineer (VAE) will be accountable to verification and assurance manager. The VAE post holder will have no responsibilities for systems structures and equipment.
The VAE post holder will have tasks and responsibilities key to the delivery of both design and the construction of the project. These tasks and responsibilities are integral to successful delivery of technical governance, design reviews and project gate reviews. Successful planning, delivery and tracking of these assurance activities ensure programme progression.
Please note - This role will require the successful person to pass BPSS and SC clearance. This role will be based on site in Plymouth, Devon 3-4 days per week.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Directing the creation of technical governance plan with support from project managers and technical leads.
- Organising and facilitate the review of technical governance plans, take ownership of associated actions arising from review, obtain closeout of actions and sign off with design safety manager and office of chief engineer representatives.
- Directing the creation of verification plan with support from project managers and technical leads.
- Organising and facilitating the review of verification plans, take ownership of associated actions arising from review, obtain closeout of actions and sign off with design safety manager and office of chief.
- Managing and issuing documents for verification to all identified subject matter experts.
- Managing and tracking the comment response matrices associated with subject matter expert reviews on all design/technical deliverables.
- Directing the creation of design review proformas with support from project managers and technical leads.
- Organising and facilitating the review of design review proforma and the proposed content of the design review, take ownership of associated actions arising from review, obtain closeout of actions and sign off with design safety manager and office of chief engineer representatives.
- Supporting with the technical classification of work packages.
- Supporting with identification of stakeholders for design review, whilst arranging the design review with project managers and office of chief engineer.
- Organising, facilitating and closing the review of project classification to ensure appropriate and proportionate governance and assurance is undertaken per package.
- Monitoring and tracking all required project gate deliverables and schedule demand to meet project gate dates.
You’ll need to have:
- You have good knowledge of principles of quality, quality management and quality control along with understanding of key project controls and processes such as design, procurement, tendering and project delivery.
- You are digitally savvy, can build lasting client relationships and lead strong, motivated teams.
