This role involves developing and optimising the algorithms inside MBDA's leading technologies within the Weapons System Algorithms & Performance (WSAP) team.ResponsibilitiesDesign, development and delivery of cutting-edge algorithms that solve weapon system problems and optimise end-to-end mission performance.Collaborate with MBDA project teams to ensure critical algorithm components are delivered on time, on cost, and on quality.Work on real-world topics such as routing algorithms for long-range strike weapons, operator decision aids for strike mission planning, threat evaluation and weapon assignment for air defence, multi-weapon cooperation, and the application of machine learning techniques to air-to-air combat.What We OfferSalary: £23,495Dynamic (Hybrid) Working: 2-3 days per week on-site, with workload-dependent variationsSecurity Clearance: British Citizen or Dual UK national with British citizenship; BPSS checks after offer stageClosing Date: Midnight on 5 January 2026 (subject to application volumes)Placement: 1 year starting September 2026, with opportunities to apply university learning to real-world projectsCompany bonus (performance-based), Pension up to 14% total contribution, Paid overtime, 25 days annual leave (+ extra purchased leave), Flexi Leave up to 15 additional daysSite facilities: subsidised meals, free car parking and moreWhat We're Looking ForWorking towards a degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer ScienceStrong interest in mathematics and applying mathematical techniques to engineering problemsExperience in programming for scientific/engineering applications (e.g., MATLAB, Python) is advantageousAbout MBDAMBDA is a leading defence organisation.
