A great opportunity for an experiened Welding Engineer to advance their career with a leading UK name in precision engineering and manufacturing. I'm working on an exciting opportunity with a well-known engineering organisation near Reddish in South Manchester, who are looking to recruit an experienced Welding Engineer to join their team as major new projects are announced and move into development. This is a permanent position, based 5 days per week on-site, that offers a competitive salary of £60,000 - £70,000 p/a plus benefits and a range of training and development opportunities. What you'll do: As a Welding Engineer, you will be instrumental in driving quality assurance across all aspects of welding operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve close collaboration with the production, engineering and design teams, providing expert advice on technical matters while supporting the selection of appropriate welding plant and equipment. You'll lead internal audits, develop comprehensive procedures, review supplier capabilities, and implement corrective actions that foster continuous improvement. By coordinating qualification testing and supporting both new product launches and legacy programme enhancements, you will help maintain exceptional standards while identifying areas for further advancement. Ensure full compliance with all relevant welding standards and procedures as Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) for the business, maintaining high levels of quality assurance. Support day-to-day welding activities across the organisation by providing expert guidance and technical assistance to production engineering and design teams. Lead works order planning data related to welding within SAP, ensuring accurate scheduling and resource allocation for projects. Plan and coordinate internal welder audits as well as audit functions associated with maintaining welding accreditations, fostering continuous improvement. Identify root causes of weld issues and non-conformance reports (NCRs) from internal audits using structured problem-solving methodologies. Drive strategic changes through Root Cause Corrective Actions (RCCA), implementing improvements that enhance overall welding processes. Review suppliers providing welding-related services to ensure their suitability and compliance with required standards for new and existing products. Develop Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) for both new product intake and legacy programmes, ensuring robust documentation and process control. Create SOPs and work instructions applicable to welding activities so that all necessary information is effectively communicated throughout the team. Perform pre-audit analysis for EN 1090, ISO 3834 & DIN 2303 standards, identifying potential NCRs before formal audits take place. What you bring: To be considered for this position, you'll need to demonstrate a strong background in Welding and Engineering, ideally with qualifications such as IWT / EWT or registration with The Welding Institute. You'll bring hands-on expertise in coordinating complex welding projects across various processes like MIG/MAG and TIG, coupled with an ability to interpret technical documentation accurately. Familiarity with ISO 3834 standards is highly desirable, to ensure that all operations meet rigorous international benchmarks. IWT / EWT qualified status is highly desirable for this role, and / or registration with The Welding Institute (TWI) CSWIP 3.1 qualification is mandatory for effective coordination of welding activities and audits. Previous experience in welding coordination roles is vital for managing complex projects efficiently. Excellent knowledge of multiple welding processes including MIG/MAG and TIG, enabling you to address diverse technical challenges. Ability to interpret technical documents such as drawings ensures accurate implementation of specifications. Working knowledge of ISO 3834 supports compliance with international quality standards in welding operations. Exposure to external audit activity equips you with insights into regulatory requirements and best practices. General computer skills are necessary for managing data within SAP and other systems used by the team. People management skills facilitate effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
