OverviewElement is looking for an Aerospace Engineer to join our team. The Aerospace Engineer will work on a range of projects across several industries (aero, defence, energy and others) to support the growth of our in-house capability. The role involves hands-on work and coaching and development of more junior team members. The position is based at the Derby office, with potential short-term deployment to client sites during 2025. Element Digital Engineering provides specialist engineering simulation, design and consultancy support to clients across aerospace, automotive, energy, built environment and chemical process industries, in the UK and internationally. You will play a central role in providing design support and verification services, operational troubleshooting and technical safety assessments.ResponsibilitiesRequirements definition and management at system, sub-system, and equipment levels.Development and improvement of requirement specifications with cross-functional teams.Leadership and support of the development of system architectures, concepts and solutions with the application of a range of tools and techniques, with a specific focus on Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).Development of system and sub-system specifications and identification of solutions to meet requirements where required.Supporting and leading the development of project proposals, and then leading and executing projects to meet client needs.Collaboration with and reporting to customer representatives; tailoring and applying engineering initiatives, best practices and quality processes; contributing to Continuous Improvement.Management and resolution of problems/queries that arise from development and qualification activity.QualificationsBachelors or Masters degree, or PhD, in a relevant engineering, science or applied mathematics discipline.Good understanding of Systems Engineering principles and practices (e.g., requirements management, functional analysis, concept generation, system design) and their application, particularly in Aerospace.Experience in the application of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools.Experience with Capella and the Arcadia method would be an advantage, though this can be taught if experience is with other tools/frameworks.Experience in the use of requirements management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS, JAMA Connect or similar).Good technical knowledge (or strong willingness to learn) in at least one other technical discipline such as Thermofluids/CFD, Thermals/FEA/Structural engineering.Excellent project management and verbal/written communication skills.Ideally Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) or actively working towards chartership status.Ability to handle challenges, flexible thinking, and comfort with unfamiliar problems.Enjoy client and colleague interaction, take responsibility for delivery, and seek opportunities to work within a growing and dynamic engineering team.About ElementElement is one of the fastest growing testing, inspection and certification businesses in the world.
