Overview

Applications Engineer / Automation Engineer / PLC Engineer required by a UK engineering company operating across industrial automation. This is a UK-wide role with a remote base and regular travel to customer sites, supporting complex automation projects across multiple industries.

The successful Applications Engineer will be responsible for PLC programming (Siemens or Rockwell/Allen-Bradley), commissioning variable speed drives, and delivering cloud control solutions. A background in motion control or rotating machinery will be particularly valued. Responsibilities

• Program and commission PLCs for automation projects, focusing on winding/motion control
• Set up and support drives, control panels, and motor systems
• Understand customer needs and deliver tailored control solutions
• Assist with cloud integration, remote monitoring, and data-driven automation
• Provide technical support on-site and remotely

Requirements

• Experience as an Applications, PLC, or Automation Engineer
• Proficient in PLC programming (Siemens, Rockwell, etc.)
• Knowledge of winding, motion control, or rotating equipment
• Strong understanding of drives, motors, and control panels
• Familiar with cloud platforms, IIoT, or digital monitoring
• Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/BEng or similar)
• Willing to travel UK-wide (50%)
