Assistive Technology Engineer

2 Days Old

Overview

The Assistive Technology Service is responsible for the assessment, provision and maintenance of environmental control systems (ECS), installed in the homes of people with severe and complex disabilities to maximise personal independence and reduce dependence on their carer. The systems are individually prescribed and configured to suit the needs of the user, enabling the user to continue to live in their own home with significantly enhanced independence, security and quality of life.

The service is commissioned by NHS England and covers an extensive and diverse geographical area, including 5 London boroughs, Surrey and West Sussex.

The wide geographic area covered necessitates skilled and effective communication with a large number of Social Services and care agents with differing policies and systems. The postholder must be flexible and sensitive to these variations when planning client interventions to ensure positive and achievable outcomes. There is a high volume of lone working and travel in this role, as the majority of time is spent with clients in their homes.

St George's University Hospital's NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Band 5 Assistive Technology Engineer to join the well-established Assistive Technology team based at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton.

The successful applicant will join the team providing assessment, installation and maintenance of environmental controls throughout the commissioned area. A driver with a full licence is therefore essential and the applicant must have access to their own vehicle with appropriate insurance for work purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, installation and maintenance of environmental control systems (ECS) for clients across the commissioned area.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external health professionals and care partners to plan client interventions.
  • Carry out refurbishment of equipment and maintain the equipment store to a high standard.
  • Participate in training of others, CPD, audits and evaluation of products.
  • Work in conjunction with internal and external health professionals to meet the needs of individual clients.
  • Travel as required; lone working is a feature of the role.

Qualifications

  • Previous clinical engineering experience is desirable.
  • Working towards an appropriate qualification and be a member (or eligible for membership/willing to work towards) of the Register of Clinical Technologists.

Additional Information

The Trust Vision & Values emphasises excellence, kindness, responsibility and respect. The postholder is expected to contribute to the Trust’s mission within an integrated healthcare system and to uphold safeguarding commitments for children and vulnerable adults. Staff are expected to attend safeguarding training appropriate to their role and to identify concerns and take appropriate action.
