Azure Engineer Birmingham Competitive salary (depending on experience) between £40,000 and £65,000 Hybrid working environment We are seeking a skilled Azure Engineer to join our growing IT team. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical and infrastructure expertise, a sound understanding of IT security best practices, and the confidence to work directly with clients. This role also involves responsibilities for documentation, controls, and compliance, helping to ensure our systems meet industry standards. Key Responsibilities Design, implement and maintain Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 cloud infrastructure, including networking, compute, storage, and identity services. Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, CLI). Monitor, optimise and support Azure-based solutions to ensure high availability and performance. Implement and maintain IT security controls, including identity and access management, encryption, and monitoring. We also maintain and control third party clients system access. Work closely with clients and internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements, present solutions and provide guidance. Produce and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, procedures, and operational controls. Assist with compliance activities and audits relating to ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and other regulatory frameworks. Support incident response, risk assessments and cybersecurity best practices (Cyber Essentials Plus desirable). Handling Active Directory and Group Policy administration Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth delivery of infrastructure projects with a potential need to attend client sites in early stages of implementation projects to set up the infrastructure requirements. Essential Skills & Experience Proven experience with Microsoft Azure services (IaaS, PaaS, networking, security). Strong understanding of Windows and/or Linux server administration. Experience with Azure Active Directory, Azure Security Centre, and monitoring tools. Knowledge of IT security principles, risk management and compliance. Strong infrastructure background—networking, firewalls, storage, backup and disaster recovery. Excellent communication skills with experience in client-facing roles. Ability to create and maintain clear documentation and operational controls. Desirable Qualifications & Knowledge Experience with ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 standards and audits. Understanding of Cyber Essentials Plus requirements. Familiarity with automation and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., ARM templates, Bicep, Terraform). Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert). We will be able to support the successful candidate to obtain the Azure Administrator Associate qualification if not already held. Personal Attributes Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
