Overview
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced BMS Design Engineer to join a dedicated infrastructure team working on one of the most complex and critical operational sites in the UK. Based permanently at a major international airport, this role focuses on delivering end-to-end BMS design solutions across a range of vital infrastructure projects, from terminal upgrades and baggage systems to energy centres and plant room refurbishments. The position sits within a specialist engineering team responsible for the full design lifecycle of advanced Building Management Systems that support the safety, efficiency and environmental performance of airport facilities. Working alongside experienced systems engineers, project managers and control specialists, the role provides a unique chance to work onsite in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment where attention to detail and robust technical delivery are paramount. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, design-led environment and who enjoys collaborating closely with stakeholders to develop intelligent BMS strategies that meet exacting compliance standards while supporting energy optimisation and operational continuity.
Responsibilities
- Develop full BMS design packages from initial specification through to installation
- Interpret M&E/HVAC design documents and apply them to BMS controls strategies
- Produce technical documentation including points lists, schematics, and schedules
- Ensure all designs are compliant with Heathrow standards and site-specific protocols
- Specify appropriate hardware, software, field devices and control panels
- Coordinate with panel manufacturers and review schematic outputs
- Attend and participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and design validation
- Collaborate closely with internal engineering teams and client representatives
- Maintain version control and technical documentation throughout project phases
- Ensure timely delivery of all design outputs within agreed budgetary constraints
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in BMS design, ideally using Trend and/or Tridium platforms
- Strong understanding of HVAC principles and mechanical systems
- Proficient in AutoCAD and documentation software
- Attention to detail and a proactive problem-solving mindset
- Confident communicator, able to work collaboratively with internal and external teams
- Willingness to undertake security clearance including DBS checks
Benefits
- A competitive salary package, with strong earning potential through a generous bonus scheme
- Additional standby allowance and regular opportunities for overtime
- Access to a flexible company car scheme, including the option for fully electric vehicles — or take a monthly car allowance if you prefer to use your own vehicle
- After 12 months, you'll have the opportunity to become part of an employee-owned business
- A contributory pension scheme with 6% employer contributions
- Free private medical insurance to give you and your family added peace of mind
- Life assurance valued at four times your annual salary
- 25 days of annual leave plus public holidays, with the chance to buy up to 3 extra days each year
- Access to Cyclescheme (up to £2,500) to help you stay active and commute sustainably
