Overview

The role involves provisioning and maintaining railway telecommunication and network services. You will help enhance and maintain railway infrastructure and provide a network to allow trains to run safely and efficiently. Using network element management equipment and asset management interfaces, you will remotely configure network equipment and customer services to agreed standards, cooperating with site technicians and project commissioning staff as required.

What you will be doing

  • Review design information for new equipment and services to ensure it adheres to agreed standards
  • Plan and prepare work for implementation in the most efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Process all provisioning and configuration requirements, including moves and changes
  • Using network management platforms and asset databases, integrate new physical assets and build new customer circuits
  • Work with principal contract staff to plan and prepare integration of new assets
  • Work with scheme design engineers to resolve any design issues identified during integration
  • Handover all new equipment to the asset owners so effective monitoring of the asset can commence
  • Provide cooperation and assistance to site technicians as necessary
  • Coordinate with other work groups to undertake Planned Works requests for circuit provisioning and equipment integration
  • Maintain and update asset inventories accurately, including circuit and trail provisioning databases
  • Complete all work to customer satisfaction, including in-service and due date confirmation

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in configuring SDH and PDH devices
  • Previous railways telecoms/signalling experience preferred
  • Telecoms qualification or Cisco CCNA qualification
  • Previous Alcatel (PDH & SDH), Cramer and Cisco experience preferred

Role details

External vacancy type: Permanent, 35 hours per week, Hybrid working of 3 days in the office. Location: Stoke TPC Building or Manchester Piccadilly. Closing date: 5 October 2025. Interviews: from 13 October 2025, face to face in Stoke. Band & Salary: Band 5 (£35,000 - £41,670).
