- Our Adviser business provides financial planning solutions and technology for UK financial advisers, enabling them to create value for their customers.
- Our investments business is a specialist asset manager that focuses on areas where we have both strength and scale to capitalize on key market themes, through public markets or alternative asset classes.
About the Department
The Digital Workplace Engineering team is a key capability within the Digital Workplace Services function. The team works collaboratively across the Group COO, business stakeholders, CoEs & Product Owners. It is responsible for creating and delivering our Digital Workplace technology roadmap, maintaining a modern, secure, and cost-efficient service. We are passionate about enhancing colleague experience and delivering an evergreen service to our business.
About the Role
The Digital Workplace Engineer will work within a cross-functional team and will be responsible for continuously improving our Digital Workplace Technology, with a specific focus on Azure Virtual Desktop technologies. This is a hands-on technical role requiring experience in design and administration of AVD, Azure, and core infrastructure services.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and administer changes across AVD and Digital Workplace Technology.
- Implement and mature core controls/activities around AVD and Azure, aligning with Aberdeen’s EUS risk control framework and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with business teams across Aberdeen to understand business strategy and translate requirements into EUC delivery initiatives, considering tooling, IT support, and operational costs.
- Drive the adoption of AVD services, reviewing usage and telemetry data.
- Contribute to the delivery of the roadmap and backlog.
- Focus on FinOps; create visibility around EUS costs, AVD usage, identify savings, and implement controls to manage budgets and produce reports.
- Collaborate with EUS Engineers and Cyber Security to improve Azure VM posture, aligning with standards.
- Create and manage reports on AVD performance and usage metrics to enhance end-user experience.
- Respond to audits related to regulatory requirements and help manage RCSA controls.
- Automate processes to reduce manual management, improve user experience, and ensure resiliency.
- Respond to major incidents requiring SME input.
- Create, publish, and communicate knowledgebase articles. Monitor technology trends and seek continuous improvement opportunities.
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Extensive experience managing or supporting IT systems and platforms.
- Experience with Azure & Virtual Desktop solutions, DEX, endpoint management, analytics, and automation tools.
- Ability to work as part of a team and manage multiple stakeholders and priorities.
- Proficiency in an ITIL environment.
- Skills in continuous engineering and agile methodologies.
- Experience leveraging automation and AI/ML for improvement.
Technical Skills
- Proven track record in Azure Virtual Desktop management, including creating/managing images, backups, sizing, impacts, and costs.
- Experience with Nerdio is beneficial.
- Knowledge of security, resilience, and infrastructure management across AVD.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- Knowledge of automated deployment with Azure DevOps.
- Experience with digital workplace tools, monitoring, and integration.
- Experience with FinOps practices, forecasting, and reporting in Azure.
- Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and performance metrics.
- Understanding of FSLogix and profile management.
- Knowledge of M365 & Security tools (Defender for Endpoint, Intune, Entra ID) is beneficial.
