Electrical Building Services Design Engineer\nLocation: Manchester (3 days in office p/week)\nContract Length: 12 months\nIR35 Status: Outside IR35\nIndustry: Power Transmission / Substation Projects\nStart Date: ASAP\nI'm sourcing for a Electrical Building Services Design Engineer to join an established multidisciplinary design team, supporting the delivery of large-scale power transmission projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and reviewing technical design solutions within a high-performing engineering environment.\nThis is an excellent opportunity to contribute to nationally significant infrastructure projects, working closely with electrical, civil, and mechanical disciplines. The role will be predominantly office-based (Manchester), with occasional site visits as required.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDevelop and review detailed technical solutions for auxiliary electrical systems on high-voltage substation projects, including:\nSmall power and lighting systems\nFire detection and alarm systems\nSecurity, CCTV, and access control systems\nEnsure all designs meet client requirements, industry standards, and legal obligations.\nEvaluate and provide feedback on client specifications and enquiry documents.\nApprove technical specifications both pre- and post-contract award.\nReview supplier design documentation at both tender and delivery stages.\nLead technical reviews of subcontractor design packages, ensuring compliance with project and industry standards.\nCollaborate with project planners to support work package delivery, including input into programme schedules and risk registers.\nSupport cross-disciplinary resourcing needs in conjunction with Mechanical Building Services engineers.\nTake ownership of workload, ensuring delivery to agreed timescales and budgets.\nSupport junior engineers and promote professional development across the team.\nKey Requirements:\nHNC/HND or Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services.\nCertified to BS7671 (18th Edition).\nProven experience delivering electrical building services designs in an industrial or infrastructure environment.\nCompetency in Dialux, Amtech and/or Hevacomp.\nWorking knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.\nStrong understanding of UK electrical design standards and industry best practice.\nExcellent organisational, time management, and communication skills.\nSelf-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.\nDesirable (Not Essential):\nCity & Guilds qualifications (e.g.

Electrical Installation, Inspection & Testing).\nExperience preparing Scope of Services documents for consultancy engagements.\nContract awareness and understanding of commercial deliverables.\nWillingness to undertake ongoing training to stay current with evolving standards and technologies.
