Overview

Electrical Engineer (Energy Transition) role at WSP in the UK & Ireland.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the wider project team to lead and develop cost-effective, efficient and innovative solutions to complex problems to create practical designs.
  • Delivering projects in a variety of stages of maturity, including Feasibility Studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design.
  • Preparation and development of electrical deliverables such as single line diagrams, cable calculations, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design, switchgear configurations philosophies and production of bills of materials/quantities for electrical systems.
  • Working with equipment vendors on developing designs of equipment packages and participating in technical evaluations of vendor designs.
  • Assessing condition of electrical assets and their designs for capability, risk, opportunity and need for intervention with owners, operators and investors.
  • Developing proposals and bids for the EC&I discipline and contributing to multi-disciplinary proposals.

Team context

The Energy Transition team provides services from inception through development, construction, operation, and decommissioning, supporting clients over the entire lifecycle of a project. Our expertise covers generation and conversion technologies, including novel concepts and low or zero carbon technology. We work with private developers, power utilities, government bodies, banks, lenders, contractors and OEMs, delivering projects safely while meeting client expectations. Our teams are located in the UK, Belgrade, Ireland and wider Europe, and we work internationally with other Energy sector teams across the globe.

What we’d love to hear from you

  • Degree or similar qualification in relevant engineering subject with significant postgraduate experience in electrical design and/or operation, maintenance and testing.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of a relevant Engineering Institute.
  • Ability and desire to lead the development of electrical deliverables and assess assets under construction or in operation.
  • Knowledge of design, construction and operation of power and energy projects.
  • Understanding of design processes and ability to demonstrate working knowledge of briefs/scopes, design concepts, calculations, commissioning, operation, maintenance and testing of medium and high voltage equipment and systems.
