Photuris Fire & Security is hiring for the Fire & Security Installation/Commissioning Engineer role. Base location: Midlands or London area near M25.

Overview

Established in 2005, Photuris Ltd delivers fire detection, fire suppression, and security solutions, installation through maintenance. The role involves installing and commissioning fire and security systems in commercial buildings; suitable for a skilled electrician looking to expand their career within a dynamic and growing company.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, and maintain fire detection, suppression, security systems (CCTV, access control, and intruder alarms).
  • Diagnose and repair faults to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure installations comply with current fire safety regulations, security standards, and BS 5839 (fire systems), BS 8243 (intruder systems), and relevant industry guidelines.
  • Work from technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to complete installation and commissioning tasks.
  • Perform testing and certification of fire and security systems, ensuring compliance with required standards and codes.
  • Collaborate with project teams, architects, and other trades to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to apprentices and junior engineers as needed.
  • Complete all relevant job documentation and reports accurately and within deadlines.
  • Document test results and provide detailed reports to clients or building owners.
  • Recommend system upgrades or modifications to enhance performance, reliability, and compliance.
  • Commit to continuous professional development, attending training workshops and certification courses.
  • Compile and complete maintenance reports, site survey reports, van stock reports, and van condition reports.
  • Assist other departments as required to ensure project completion; notify office immediately of major system failures or site issues; ensure work area is cleared of debris; respond to client queries; ensure ISO paperwork is followed; maintain professionalism and customer service.
  • Build and sustain strong client relationships to uphold the company’s reputation.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualified Fire and Security Engineer: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Fire and Security Systems Installation.
  • Certifications: FIA, ECS Card or equivalent; knowledge of latest fire safety and security regulations.
  • Experience installing and commissioning fire detection, suppression, and security systems in commercial or industrial environments.
  • Testing and commissioning experience for fire alarms, CCTV, access control, and intruder alarms.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Problem-solving, clear communication with clients and project teams, and attention to detail.
  • 5–10 years of experience in fire and security installations and commissioning.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings and schematics; ability to install and commission a range of systems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and codes; experience with wired and wireless systems.
  • Ability to document work, plan effectively, and use IT tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Kentec, Advanced, Morley/Ziton, Gent; FIA courses; Texecom/Galaxy intruder systems; Paxton/HID access control; analogue/IP CCTV; Baldwin Boxall/C-TEC DDA systems.
  • Maintenance experience, fault finding, client training; understanding of building regulations and fire safety codes.
  • PTS or Rail experience preferred.

What We Offer

  • Salary up to £50,000 per annum plus overtime; dependent on location and experience.
