Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join a growing consultancy team in York. The role is ideally suited to a graduate with a good understanding of civil engineering design and principles, together with some prior workplace exposure through a placement, internship, or relevant work experience. The position offers involvement in a wide variety of civil engineering projects across residential, commercial, education, leisure, and industrial sectors, with a particular focus on drainage design, highways, and infrastructure. The successful candidate will gain structured training, mentoring, and support towards achieving Chartered Engineer status.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and analysis of civil engineering projects, including drainage, highways, and infrastructure works.
  • Support the preparation of designs and technical documentation in accordance with UK design standards.
  • Contribute to drainage strategies with a particular emphasis on Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
  • Use design software packages for civil engineering modelling and analysis.
  • Work closely with engineers, surveyors, and project managers across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities to support project delivery.
  • Contribute to projects from feasibility and outline design through to construction and completion.


Qualifications:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent).


Required Skills:

  • A solid understanding of civil engineering principles, particularly drainage and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and current guidance/legislation.
  • Some prior workplace exposure (e.g., placement, internship, or relevant work experience).
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, design software (e.g., Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to working towards Chartered Engineer status through an approved training scheme.
